Abstract

There is a growing realization that rivers and river systems can provide answers to a number of problems our cities are facing today. With rising urban needs and pressures in face of climate change and increasing scarcity of resources, rivers have started to hold more prominence within the city’s development vision and goals. The chapter explores the potential for a more coherent understanding of the connections between river ecosystems and cities.
