Abstract

The life-giving ecosystem or rivers must be understood in its entirety for urban rivers to be restored. Issues of severe degradation of urban rivers due to rising urban populations, increasing pollution, and the escalating climate crisis across the globe cannot be solved within river channels alone. Channel-floodplain connectivity and complexity include consideration of tributaries, rain, forests, surface water bodies, groundwater, and aquifers.
