Abstract

Nanotechnology has undergone disruptive changes in the advanced world that we live in today. The advancements in modern nanotechnology have largely involved the use of nanomaterials. Owing to breakthroughs that have been made possible with its assistance, increased use of nanotechnology has led to an increase in the generation of nanowaste. The presence of nanomaterials in waste poses several threats to the environment and the health of living beings. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of nanomaterial classification, types and categories of nanowaste, sources of nanowastes, classes of potential health hazards and risk profiles, and identification strategies of nanomaterial present in waste. In a nutshell, this chapter is intended to provide the readers with an understanding of different nanowastes, their classification, and their waste generation sources.
