Chapter 29 - Integration of knowledge resources into applications to enable CDS: Architectural considerations

Abstract

Much of this textbook focuses on either the supply-side concerns of knowledge generation and representation, or the delivery of that content via clinical decision support (CDS) and other means. In this chapter, we examine in detail the bridge between the authoring of clinical knowledge and its operationalization in production care contexts. In other words, how knowledge resources can be integrated with clinical information systems (CISs)—electronic health record (EHR) and other systems—to enable CDS.
