Abstract

The field of electronic assistive technology (EAT) covers an array of devices which are used to carry out a variety of functional tasks. It is a rapidly developing field, fuelled not only by the constant development of electronic devices, but also by an increasing amount of integration with and application of mass-market products which can be used to counter the effects of impairment. The chapter is divided into nine sections. Each is described mostly in isolation to the others to allow an understanding of the concepts to be developed, but should be considered by the reader in the broader terms described above.
