Abstract

Steam jet ejectors, absorption chillers, and mechanical refrigeration systems are covered in this chapter. Guidance is given for process engineers to prepare refrigeration system specifications, with typical data sheets. Indirect and direct system design approaches are discussed, with their advantages and disadvantages. Horsepower per ton of refrigeration is charted. Interim and long-term refrigerants are listed with application notes. Refrigerant containment and leak detection strategies are described. Utilities required for ammonia absorption units are tabulated.
