Abstract

With the quick growth of Internet of Things and contracted electronic devices, the demand for wearable power sources with high reliability and a long stability cycle encourages the investigation of wearable energy harvesting technologies. Due to the heavy weight of batteries, properties including lightweight, flexible, wearable, and durable energy harvesting devices are now demanding. This chapter deals with flexible and wearable energy-harvesting devices. It discusses energy-harvesting mechanisms which are textile based and their construction methods. Furthermore, the use of two-dimensional materials for energy harvesting is detailed. In addition, the chapter elaborates on the mechanisms of textile-based piezoelectric and thermoelectric materials and their characterization for energy harvesting for smart clothing. Furthermore, the chapter adds the various forms of textile-based materials and their energy-harvesting mechanisms. Finally, the chapter deals with thermoelectric energy generators and closes at the end with future perspectives on energy harvesting.
