Abstract

Vitamin D not only plays a key role in bone metabolism but also contributes to the defense against contagious agents (bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi). Here, we describe the immunomodulatory role of vitamin D, particularly, in two chronic (hepatitis C virus and human immunodeficiency virus) and one acute viral infection (influenza virus).
