Abstract

The anatomically complex sellar and parasellar regions are sites of a wide range of lesions distinct from pituitary adenomas. These lesions arise within these regions or in adjacent tissues and grow into the sella. They include neoplastic, cystic, inflammatory, granulomatous, developmental, vascular, or tumor-like lesions. The absolute differentiation of these lesions may be challenging as many may mimic clinical and radiologic presentations of pituitary adenomas. Their diagnosis requires multidisciplinary investigation and detailed clinical, endocrinologic, ophthalmologic, neurologic, and radiologic assessments, as well as pathologic examination of resected tissue. The clinical objective is to accurately diagnose these lesions based on clinical and complementary testing prior to any surgical intervention.
