Abstract

The sellar and parasellar regions are anatomically complex and can be the site of several tumors differing from pituitary adenomas. They can occur only in these regions or arise in adjacent tissues, and include neoplastic, cystic, inflammatory, granulomatous, developmental, vascular, or tumor-like lesions. Their differentiation may be difficult since many may mimic clinical, endocrinologic, and radiologic presentations of pituitary adenomas. Their diagnosis requires multidisciplinary investigation and detailed clinical, endocrinologic, ophthalmologic, neurologic, and radiologic tests, as well as pathologic examination. The aim is to diagnose them as accurately as possible based on clinical and complementary tests before surgery.
