Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to make an introduction to the blockchain technology and its recent advances. It also provides details on smart contracts and how they are used to increase the flexibility of blockchain applications. Finally, it explains how blockchain can be used in intelligent transportation systems and how smart contracts can be employed in the development of smart mobility applications, such as ride sharing.
