Abstract

The focus of this chapter is on the application of intelligent transport system (ITS) in smart cities. The chapter provides an overview of smart mobility schemes in the service of citizens that commute or city visitors and tourists that start their transport paths from the city airport and examines how much they can help in the day-to-day lives of citizens and what is their potential. It also details the various transportation challenges that relate to mobility such as safety, productivity, and environmental care. Finally, it points to the future of integrated mobility systems for smart cities and examines the massive changes to come with the advent of on-demand transportation.
