Abstract

Since the advent of genome-wide association studies, there have been rapid developments in genomics research into Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Research in the past decade has brought forward many novel AD-susceptibility loci, and has identified many new biological pathways influencing AD pathology. These new insights are crucial for our understanding of the biology of AD, and offer new opportunities for medical targets and interventions for the prevention and/or treatment of AD. Here, we review the most important developments in genomics research for AD since the advent of genome-wide association studies. Moreover, we provide a brief overview of other -omics approaches for AD, and elaborate on the advantages of multiple -omics approaches for investigating complex disorders such as AD.
