Abstract

The chapter discusses the computational algorithms for the rational numbers in multiplication, addition, subtraction and division. The product of two rational numbers is that rational number whose numerator is the product of their numerators and whose denominator is the product of their denominators. The sum of two rational numbers with a common denominator (that is, having the same denominator) is that rational number whose numerator is the sum of their numerators and whose denominator is their common denominator. The difference of two rational numbers with a common denominator is that rational number whose numerator is the difference of their numerators and whose denominator is their common denominator. The quotient of two rational numbers is that rational number whose numerator is the product of the numerator of the dividend and the denominator of the divisor and whose denominator is the product of the denominator of the dividend and the numerator of the divisor.
