Abstract

Partially fluorinated copolymers such as polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) have excellent resistance to many of the same chemicals that polytetrafluoroethylene withstands. PVF degrades when it reaches its melting point. PVF dispersion in a latent solvent is melt processible below its actual melting point. PVDF is melt processible and dissolves in a number solvents allowing application by solution coating. Both polymers produce parts that are virtually free of voids thanks to the ease of void closure during processing.
