Abstract

All healthcare organizations must identify the security risks in their respective environments that require enhanced protection or special safeguards. It is the healthcare organization’s responsibility to make the decision, through a security risk analysis process, as to which areas have exceptional risk, rendering them security sensitive areas or lower risk areas of special concern. This chapter helps the reader understand three primary locations whose function or activity presents an environment in which there is a significant potential for injury, abduction, or security loss, that would most likely severely negatively impact the ability of the organization to deliver high quality patient care: infant birthing and pediatric care areas, the emergency department and the pharmacy.
