Abstract

During the last 100 years immersion in cinematography has undergone fundamental technological advancements, for example, adding audio to silent movies, color to black and white images, digital projection technologies, and stereoscopy, to name a few. More recently alternative media consumption devices, such as virtual, augmented and mixed reality are gaining increased attention. Video game engines disrupt established VFX production processes with LED wall setups. Holographic display technologies further blur the line between real and virtual content. Indications for the rise of visual story driven content that is keen to new dimensions of immersion beyond a traditional 2 dimensional screen.
