Abstract

Microalgae have developed novel diverse compounds with unique biological properties. They can biosynthesize many valuable substances, with potential applications in cosmeceuticals, nutraceuticals, and functional foods. This interest has led to the commercialization of a multitude of cosmeceutical products based on microalgae, which have become natural alternatives to chemical-based cosmetics. This chapter considers the recent progress in the application of bioactive substances derived from microalgae as potential cosmeceuticals. The various biological activities of microalgae and their compounds are reported to evaluate their potential use in current and future cosmetic skin care products.
