Abstract

Vasculogenesis is tightly controlled by genetic determinants and is characterized by cellular differentiation and decreasing plasticity. Until the onset of circulation, vascular development is genetically determined. Feedback signals from the vascular system, including pressure, flow, and metabolic state of the tissue, modify the genetically determined outline. Cardiac failure leads to early remodeling defects, and flow-induced eNOS expression controls secondary plexus generation (Lucitti et al., 2007).
