Abstract

The different loss-of-containment events are presented: liquid release, gas/vapor release, two-phase flow, relief discharges, evaporation of a liquid from a pool. The mathematical expressions that can be applied to predict the loss of containment flow rate for a given case and a given accidental scenario are commented, with a series of examples. Finally, a summary with the essential aspects of the general outflow guidelines usually applied for quantitative risk analysis is given.
