Chapter 2 - Phenomenon at the nanoscale

Abstract

Here the consequences of reduction in size are reviewed. This includes size-related effects, like the modification of the band structure, that is, bandgap modification, surface effects, and nanolinearity effects. In addition different important physical and chemical properties modification of restructuring compared to the bulk count partner is to be reviewed and analyzed. The technological potential for new devices like self-powered technology are introduced (discussed in more detail in Chapter 6: Emerging new applications and future prospects and challenges).
