Abstract

This chapter deals with the catalytic oxidation of substrates excluding the direct oxidation of an alkene and alkyne functional group. A brief account of some asymmetric oxidation reactions involving homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis has come up. The procedure for enantioselective transition metal catalyzed allylic oxidation of alkenes is discussed under enantioselective C-H oxidation process. The use of Copper (I) and Copper (II) based on oxazoline complexes are discussed and investigated on the use of substituted proline variants on oxidation procedure. The synthesis of enantiomerically pure lactones using a Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of racemic, meso- and/or achiral ketones attracted significant attention. The heteroatom oxidation of the catalytic enantioselective oxidation of sulfides is presented with illustrations and also for titanium mediated enantioselective oxidation of sulfides. The investigation done by Skarzewski on enantioselective oxidation of a series of sulfides as a general method for the preparation of C 2 symmetric sulfoxides using a vanadium-based catalyst with ligand is also provided.
