Abstract

Cancer is the second foremost causes of death globally just behind the cardiovascular disease demanding vital attention to significantly reduce the global cancer burden. Traditional anticancer drug formulations have their own short comings such as short half-life, unpredictable side effects, low therapeutic efficiency toward selected tumors, etc. With the development of nanotechnology, cancer nanomedicine, the application of nanomedicine for the treatment of cancer, has seen enormous progress in recent years. Recently, electrospun polymer fibers have gained a great attention as implantable anticancer drug delivery devices due to their unique architectural features and robust drug loading capability with very encouraging preliminary results. This chapter focuses on the state-of-the-art nanofiber-based formulations for cancer chemotherapy applications.
