Abstract

The backbone of this chapter evolves around linear vector spaces, mappings, and convex analysis. It aims at providing a coherent analytical background. Much of the material is standard linear algebra with which the reader is assumed to have some familiarity and therefore our intention is to provide an overview of the key ideas and tools and gather major information pertaining to the book objectives. The topics covered include finite-dimensional spaces, mean-value and implicit-function theorems, matrix algebra and calculus, the Kronecker product and sum, and the Cayley–Hamilton theorem.
