Abstract

Combinational drug therapy is becoming more popular for the treatment of various ailments such as cancer, CNS related disorder, multidrug resistance, infectious disease, and so on providing synergistic drug effects; reduced drug toxicity, and overcoming multidrug resistance. In recent years, nanocarriers-based delivery of combinational drugs emerged out as an effective approach for delivering the combinational drugs to their targeted site by overcoming biological, biophysical, and biomedical barriers. Among the various lipid-based nanocarriers available, liposomes have been extensively exploited for delivery of combinational drugs to improve their therapeutics efficacy. Liposome provides sustained, controlled, and targeted delivery of combinational drugs and thus enhanced drugs therapeutic efficacy and reduced drugs related adverse effects. This chapter will provide information about various liposomal formulations researched till now for combinational drugs in the area of cancer, CNS delivery, multidrug resistance, infectious disease, and so on. Challenges and future aspects for delivery of combination drugs will also be included.
