Abstract
This chapter discusses how libraries are using social media for marketing. Social media sites that are frequently used by libraries include YouTube, Goodreads, Foursquare, and Pinterest. In addition, an overview of a study designed to determine librarians’ comfort levels with social media and their perceptions of using social media for professional development is reviewed. The results of the study indicate that the most popular social media platforms used by librarians were Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. While these are all popular platforms, the study results also revealed that many of the participants did not have online personal learning networks.
