Abstract

System for storage and delivery (SDS) of tritium and deuterium shall admit them from external sources or from the ISS and supply to the TNR’s fueling system with flow rate and duration required. Review of various technologies shows that only hydride containers and gas vessels seems applicable. Containers filled with hydride-forming metal or intermetallic compound are widely used in tritium-handling facilities. Properties of hydride-forming materials, such as equilibrium and rate of hydrogen sorption/desorption, disproportionation, pyrophoricity, etc. are described. Specific features of design of hydride containers, such as limit for tritium inventory, improvement of heat and mass transfer, safety aspects, are described.
