Abstract
Through this book there are a series of practical exercises to help you familiarize yourself with the Cortex-M processor and its development tools. This book uses the industry leading Keil microcontroller development kit for ARM (MDK-ARM). This chapter details how to download and install the free MDK-ARM Lite Edition. We then look at how to configure and build a first project. Once the project has been built it can be debugged in the MDK-ARM simulator. The MDK-ARM simulator is an excellent learning tool as it simulates a full Cortex-M-based microcontroller. Once we have a working project we examine the various code optimizations available within the toolchain.
