Abstract

This chapter presents a brief overview of primary data requirements for a catchment hydrological model. The data requirements are classified as time-invariable (or time-invariant) data (e.g. DEM and soil type), time-variable (or time-variant) data, which are primarily meteorological forcing data, and data for model calibration. This chapter also describes different sources of recently available global data relevant for catchment modelling and discusses some practical issues on the use of spatial data for lumped, semidistributed and distributed models.
