Abstract

Historically, the animal research community has been reluctant to discuss the benefits of animal experimentation in public, knowing how sensitive this issue is for the society. However, their absence from debates has been filled by the animalist groups, who have always been very keen to communicate their views to the public. This unbalanced situation changed in 2014, when the first Concordat on Openness on Animal Research was launched in United Kingdom, followed by similar agreements in other European countries released during the following years. This chapter will summarize these efforts toward transparency and communication in animal research.
