Abstract

There are many commercial varieties of sweet orange, mandarin, lemon, lime, grapefruit and pummelo, the major citrus fruits of international trade, grown in different countries across the world. This chapter describes important characters of citrus varieties in brief apart from hybrids and mutants developed through breeding. Information is also given for other commercially important fruits of citrus family and its close relatives such as sweet lime, citron, calamondin, hassaku, kumquat and bael. Latest information about production areas, varieties, harvesting seasons, climate and statistics of citrus for major citrus producers in the world is given. Thus this chapter provides valuable information on citrus varieties from postharvest management and trade point of view.
