Abstract

This chapter places biomass in the broad context of planetary boundaries and climate change. Human activities are pushing the Earth beyond its capacity to sustain the lives on Earth. Climate change is one of the effects of crossing the capacity limits of the Earth. For better comprehension of these changes’ basic concepts of things such as planetary boundaries, global warming, climate change, carbon cycle, and soil degradation are introduced. This chapter briefly explains different impacts of climate change and what actions could be taken for addressing these issues. Finally, it discusses what role biomass plays in the mitigation of climate and other changes.
