Abstract
A laboratory developed mass spectrometry assay constitute a workflow that cobble together many interdependent analytical tools in unique ways to address a specific clinical problem that is not sufficiently addressed by the existing automated platforms. To a laboratorian participating in the implementation of mass spectrometry platform for the first time, this chapter aims to highlight some of the key considerations that go into the choice of those analytical steps and tools that make up the mass spectrometry platform in an application specific manner. This chapter aims to shed some light (however faint and incomplete) on some of the key technical decision points unique to the test along the path to the successful implementation of mass spectrometry platform in the clinical laboratory.
