Abstract

Optimization problems, which contain uncertain parameters, have been challenged in different research studies in recent years by employing different optimization techniques and uncertainty modeling methods. Robust optimization approach is introduced for solving optimization problems with uncertain parameters, for which probability distribution functions are not required. Uncertainty sets, which have set structure, are utilized for modeling the problems with robust optimization to determine the probable uncertain parameters. This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive review on robust optimization employment in power system problems. Different types of power systems problems, which are handled by implementation of robust optimization method, are classified and studied. Moreover, a case study is introduced for applying robust optimization methods to familiarize the readers with effective approaches to power system problems.
