Abstract

Micro-grids (MGs) are a combination of distributed energy resources (DER) units, and energy storage systems (ESS), which can be utilized in different modes including connected to the power network or isolated from the power network. MG plays a significant role in moderating the balance of power supply and demand. Providing the optimal generation scheduling of MG generation units is discussed in several research studies, and is often solved through employment of a variety of classical and heuristic optimization methods. In this chapter, a MG which includes hydrothermal system, wind turbine (WT), and a pumped storage unit is studied, with the aim to schedule power production over 24h’ time interval. Considering the difficulty of the optimization problem, an effective and strong optimization technique is implemented for obtaining the minimum operational cost of the studied MG. Robust optimization method is employed for solving the MG economic dispatch. The obtained solutions ensure the practically and effectiveness of the proposed technique for providing the optimal power generation of hydrothermal system, WT, and pumped storage unit.
