Abstract

Schistosomiasis is caused by infection with a helminthic blood parasite of the genus schistosome. It inhabits human vasculature. It is an old disease in Africa found in the Egyptian mummies. Approximately 207 million people in the world are infected with schistosomiasis; of these, 90% live in sub-Saharan Africa.
