Abstract
This chapter explores the management of diabetes in older adults. Although some aspects of diabetes care remain consistent as patients age, other components should be adapted and individualized to account for age-related changes that occur in this population. This includes an evaluation of glycemic targets, lifestyle recommendations, medication selection, appropriate deprescribing of medications, and management of cardiovascular risk factors in older adults. This individualized approach is important to providing appropriate care for this population in order to prevent complications of diabetes while minimizing the risk of adverse events resulting from treatment.
