Abstract

Adult stem and progenitor cells have been isolated from a wide variety of sources. Lineage-committed progenitors are found in a number of tissues including skin, fat, muscle, heart, brain, liver, pancreas, bladder, and others. Adults have another source of stem and progenitor cells that are not restricted to a specific tissue. These ‘universal’ stem and progenitor cells are found circulating in peripheral blood, allowing them to reach and integrate into all tissues.
