Abstract
The importance of cancer chemoprevention is discussed, together with the relevance of cancer biomarkers and interpatient heterogeneity. The main cancer chemopreventive drugs and their mechanisms of action are described, including modulators of sexual hormone response and other compounds targeting nuclear receptors, nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, and nutritional supplements with antioxidant properties. The relevance of the Nrf2-ARE pathway to cancer prevention is also discussed.
