Abstract

Peptides are significant bioactive products that are produced naturally in many marine organisms. Extensive research has been conducted on peptides. The importance and activity of marine bioactive peptides are uncertain in most cases. Marine bioactive peptides have high prospective nutraceutical and medicinal values, which make them attractive to the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries for use in preventing and treating various diseases. The isolation of effective functional bioactivities substances has been regarded as a major research goal. As a result, large amounts of bioactive peptides have been isolated from marine species and have been found to have antioxidant, antidiabetic, antibacterial, anticoagulant, and antihypertension properties, among others. Although only a small number of bioactive peptides have been identified in marine organisms, the majority of marine species with biological activity can be detected. Therefore the processing techniques that have been used in recent studies require further improvement to discover more marine bioactive peptides. In this chapter we will specify the role of antioxidant bioactive peptides, their isolation processes, and their characterization from marine species.
