Abstract

This chapter discusses some of the key points important for household robotics and describes the features a humanoid should have to be able to do the same jobs as his specialized unintelligent ancestor. A robot can be defined as a machine, which includes all the classical engineering sciences such as: mechanical engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, and modern fields of engineering such as computer science and material sciences. Intelligent robots can give people the freedom to use their spare time in a more satisfying way. Such robots are typically mobile and autonomous devices. One of the reasons one might build a robot with a humanoid form is that, it will be much more easy and natural for humans to interact with the robot in a human-like way. Nonengineering disciplines such as psychology and biology are becoming important in designing a robot that will not only look like a human being, but also behave natural in its movements and emotional way of acting.
