Abstract
Carbon materials with high thermal conductivity are reviewed by focusing on highly-oriented and highly-crystallized graphite films, graphitized mesophase-pitch-based carbon fibers, sintered diamond and diamond-like carbon, referring to single crystals of graphite and diamond. Highly-oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) produced at high temperature and high pressure can have high thermal conductivity at room temperature, comparable to graphite crystal. Graphite films prepared from polyimide films at high temperature under mechanical constraint can have high thermal conductivity, close to graphite crystal and HOPG. Diamond single crystal has high thermal conductivity, but sintered diamond and diamond-like carbon membranes cannot have high conductivity.
