Abstract
TPL is one of over 100 documented power laws. Some of the biological power laws are probably related as connections with species-area and mass-abundance laws have been established. Fairfield Smith’s agricultural power law relating crop yield to plot size is easily transformed into TPL. There are also connections with physiological power laws and the dimensional relationships of flying animals may also be connected via the physiology of flight. Connections with some physical or numerical power laws such as spectra described by Hurst’s equation and Zip/Pareto distributions of network connections have also been established. Diffusion-limited aggregation and percolation have fractal properties that may also link TPL to fractals. The Hughes-Madden binomial power law is a special case of TPL quantifying aggregation in the presence-absence data common in plant pathology.
