Abstract

This experiment describes the modification of a microchip (employed for electrophoretic separations) with didecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB), a double-chained cationic surfactant, and its effect on the electrochemical behavior of ferrocene carboxylic acid (FCA). Ferrocene could be employed as a label in bioassays and conjugation with bioreagents can be done through the carboxylic group. In this case, determination of FCA is of interest and, as it is an anionic probe, a reversal of the electroosmotic flow is done. After injection, amperometric detection is performed on thin-film gold electrodes, located at the end of the microchip microchannel. A linear relationship between the analytical signal (due to the oxidation of ferrocene) and the concentration of FCA is the basis of the determination.
