Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) applications within dermatopathology have been of great interest due to the increased use of digital microscopy within the field. The recent advent of whole slide imaging has unveiled an area where AI, specifically deep learning algorithms, has great potential to aid in diagnosis. Convolutional neural networks are the most frequently utilized form of deep neural networks within histopathologic analysis and have shown promising results in the areas of image recognition, segmentation, and classification. Despite these optimistic results, the generalizability and application of AI in daily clinical practice remain unclear. In this chapter, we summarize the existing literature on AI applications in dermatopathology and discuss the challenges, opportunities, and future directions of its use in clinical practice.
