Abstract

Nanotechnology is the study of materials related to the nanoscale. The application of nanotechnology can be observed in all critical sectors and domains of the earth. This chapter encompasses the effect of nanotechnology on the macro scale, such as on agriculture, environment, and humans. Nanotechnology in agriculture plays a vital role in asserting soil fertility and improving the quality of crops and food productivity. In the environment, it helps treat water impurities, sense environmental contaminants, and generate energy by developing nano-based third-generation solar cells. However, the hefty release of nanomaterials in the surroundings leads to antagonistic effects on the food chain, posing a threat to human and animal health. The concentration of accumulated nanoparticles increases from lower to higher trophic levels, creating perils for the ecosystem.
