Abstract

Sleep problems are common across the lifespan of children, adolescents, and adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Sleep problems can exacerbate and be exacerbated by, ADHD. Common comorbid mental and physical health conditions further complicate this picture. This chapter highlights key areas for future research in sleep and ADHD with a focus on improving our knowledge around the epidemiology of sleep patterns and problems in ADHD, brain development, and effective treatments. Increasing the quantity and quality of research in each of these areas will support optimal care for the large numbers of children, adolescents and adults with ADHD and sleep disorders.
