Abstract

Experimental and research methods in metals biotechnology are illustrated taking into consideration interdisciplinary aspects such as biogenesis and biomineralization, bioleaching, biomineral beneficiation, biofouling, and microbial corrosion as well as microbial aspects of mining pollution and remediation. Experimental protocols and procedures are discussed for isolation and identification of different mining microorganisms, studies on bacterial growth kinetics, bioleaching methods, basic research on microbially induced mineral beneficiation, establishment of biofouling, and microbial corrosion and evaluation of acid mine drainage and bioremediation.
