Abstract

The biomedical application of the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has intensively upsurge over the last few decades due to its précised tunability, porous surface areas, and extensive loading capacity. Notably, MOFs are used extensively in the drug delivery process. In pharmaceuticals, MOFs were applicable for the delivery of small entity of molecules at primitive stage. Moreover, recent research has focused on macromolecules in cargo like proteins and nucleic acids. However, we focused on MOF application for drug delivery. This chapter provides an overview of MOF categorization for drug delivery systems based on the many kinds of metals and ligands. It comprises drug delivery system composition and methodologies, drug loading strategies, biopharmaceutics, and quality control. Significantly, a variety of typical applications of MOFs are detailed as application in pharmaceutics, disease therapy, and drug delivery.
