Abstract

Trichoderma reesei or Hypcrea jecorina is the main industrial working horse for cellulase and xylanase production. Since its isolation in World War II, it has gone through a series of strain improvement by random mutagenesis and genetic engineering. Its mutant has fantastic protein secretion systems and protein production can reach up to 100g/l. This paper aims to summarize its recent advancement in T. reesei strain improvement, in particular, genetic engineering of this strain for enhanced enzyme production.
